Regional Minutes
These were the minutes
that were fed back to other groups in Yorkshire to tell them what
Headway Rotherham has doing over the last 3 months.
As you can see and
as you know, Rotherham is a very busy group
YORKSHIRE
REGIONAL MEETING
ROTHERHAM REPORT • June 2005
YORKSHIRE REGIONAL MEETING
ROTHERHAM REPORT
JULY 2005
Our Information & Advocacy Project is still progressing
very well.
In the three months since the project began there have been 474
contacts:
• 403 by telephone
• 46 outreach
• 25 visits to our Headway office
Our new offices are still functioning very well and our Committee
Meetings are held there each month.
Social events are planned on a regular basis:
• We held our AGM in April when we strengthened our Committee
from seven to twelve members. This was followed by Cheese &
Wine.
• We had a video show of Venezuela in May; a talk from Myways
Training Agency in June; and a Barbecue at the Grange Golf Club
in July. The Barbecue was a particularly enjoyable evening attended
by over 70 people, with entertainment provided by St Wilfrid’s
Soul Band.
• Coffee Mornings are held every two weeks at the Rotherham
Library.
• An evening meal at a local Chinese Restaurant was enjoyed
by 25 members.
We are managing to provide a wide range of activities:
• Our Computer Course came to an end in July. We will be
negotiating for a new course for September.
• We have continued our monthly visits to the Golf Driving
Range and employed the services of the Professional to teach our
group. This has been followed by meals and drinks afterwards in
the Club House.
• Pool sessions are still being organized every month.
• Very successful Complementary Therapy sessions were held
recently. We hope to repeat this in the autumn.
• We are organizing Crown Green Bowling at Clifton Park
for the summer months of June, July, August & September instead
of Ten-Pin Bowling.
• A Beauty Therapy evening was appreciated by many of our
members.
• A walk by the Chesterfield Canal took place recently.
<
p> We have been very successful in our fund-raising recently:
• One member organized an Evening of Clairvoyance and raised
£1015.
• One person took part in the Great Manchester Run and has
raised over £600.
• The sale of used books continues to be a great source
of income providing over £200 each month.
Our Carers decided that they would like to meet monthly for
lunch to provide some quality time for themselves.
We continue to attempt to increase our knowledge and understanding
of brain injury and related health and social care issues. In
recent months:
• Our Information Officer attended two days of specialist
training at Kemsley.
• Two members have attended two Away Half-Days with the
Social Services Adult Disability Team.
• Members of Headway Rotherham were instrumental in setting
up a Conference to consider the implementation of the NSF for
Long Term Conditions recently.
This was very successful and was attended by the PCT, the Hospital
Trust, Social Services and voluntary groups.
• Two members attended the Way Ahead weekend at Nottingham
recently.
• One member has been involved in planning meetings for
the changing structures for Health & Social Care for Adults.
• Two members were invited to the launch of the Foundation
status of the Rotherham General Hospital.
• One member has been involved in the Long Term Conditions
Implementation Group.
• Two members have attended meetings of the Brain Injury
Sub-Group
Raising awareness of brain injury and the work of Headway is
always very important to us. We have attempted to achieve this
in the following ways:
• Two members were invited to be interviewed live on Radio
Sheffield.
• At least two members are available in the Oakwood Centre
for Rehab Medicine Centre on the second Thursday of each month.
• Members attended a local Networking Event, provided a
Headway display.
• One member was invited to sit on the interview panel to
appoint a family liaison worker at HIRC and CBIS.
• Members are involved locally with a very wide range of
groups and committees helping to influence Health & Social
Care in Rotherham.
