What is Brain Injury

Brain Injury can happen to
anyone, anywhere,
at any time.
In the UK each year, one
million people will attend
hospital having sustained a
head injury of some kind.
A severe head injury can
damage the brain and may
cause a variety of disabilities.
Problems resulting from brain
injury may include: -
* Personality change
* Poor memory and
concentration
* Impaired speech
* Loss of mobility
* Communication problems
* Loss of social skills
* Aggression and
inappropriate behaviour
* Epilepsy
* Lack of insight
* Poor planning and problem
solving skills
* Lack of understanding
* Lack of initiative and
motivation
* Money-handling problems

 

Headway Rotherham Offers help in a
variety of ways

Support Group Meetings
Informal and relaxed meetings for sharing experiences and ideas with other people affected by brain injury

Social Events
Including cheese and wine evenings, tenpin bowling, barbeques, theatre trips, Christmas party, day trips

Carer' Support
Monthly support group meetings with a friendly and supportive atmosphere

Telephone Support
A chance to discuss and share problems with someone with similar experience

Family Support
Giving Guidance to relatives in the early stages of hospitalisation and arriving home and for as long as required afterwards

Education
For family members and brain injured persons

News and information
We keep our members informed of events and have a library of nformation

Professional Services
We have links with Solicitors, Social Services, Health Authorities and other relevant proffesional groups

 

Meetings

Social meetings
All members are invited to these meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the
Park Rehabilitation Centre,
Badsley Moor Lane, Rotherham
From 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Easy access and free parking.

 

Carers' support meetings
All carers are invited to these meetings on the last Wednesday of each month
In The Unity Centre, St. Leonard’s Road, Rotherham
From 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Easy access and free parking.

A day of Health & Retail Therapy on the 22nd March !!! More details to follow
